Just as the recent storm tore through the northern region the prior day, the home side overwhelmed the visitors away at the Etihad. It was a convincing three goal victory for the City coach's side owing to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their championship potential as they consolidated their position at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Setbacks for United

This outcome represented consecutive WSL setbacks for Skinner's side for the first time since spring 2024, leaving them a sizable gap off the league leaders with their title hopes severely dented.

Overpowering Start

A short time later, they had a third after a quick turnover in the ball saw Lauren Hemp allowed the space to strike a shot home from outside the box.

After the Break

The clearest adjustment came from Skinner at the interval as Melvine Malard entered for Terland but by this time it was futile to change the course of the contest. Ex- Manchester City player Park came most likely to score, rattling the upright, but the away team were creatively abject and did not manage to record a one shot on goal.

The hosts, meanwhile, could have added to their lead when a excellent Vivianne Miedema through ball sent Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it was insignificant to the winning team.
