From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
